ICQ and WinGate 2.0x

Well, you downloaded ICQ
and got several computers connected
to the Internet through WinGate ?
You want them all to use ICQ ?

Okay, here we go….

Lets say your machine running wingate has the ip 192.168.0.1
And the machine that connects through wingate has the ip 192.168.0.2

Be sure to setup a UDP mapping service for icq.mirabilis.com like this :

Right-click on services, select New | Service | UDP Mapping

Service name : eg. ICQ Mapping 3333
(don't mind the service name … it can be anything you like, just don't forget it has to make some sense).
Description : eg. ICQ Mapping service to port 4000

Connections to service:
Check : "Accept connections on port"
Change the port to : 3333

Default mapping:
Check : "Enable default mapping to"
Change the "server" to : icq.mirabilis.com
Change "on port" : 4000

And don’t forget to make a mapping too… or else it won't work :)
[The mapping can be found under the properties of the UDP mapping you just made :) ]
Add all the ICQ Servers you know of (icq1.mirabilis.com / icq2.mirabilis.com / etc...

Now in ICQ you have to put these settings:

  • Connecting through LAN.
  • Use SOCKS4 Proxy

(I've included the screen for a already setup machine, but if you use wingate, and you are a system administrator, you should also be able to figure out these settings at ICQ install time)

Don't forget to uncheck "Launch ICQ on startup", or else it will kick the dailer and your phone bill is going to be very high :) )

Now for the "Firewall Settings" :

Click "I am using a SOCKS4 proxy server". (and after that click "Next>" :c) )

Now the SOCKS4 settings :

"SOCKS4 Host" is your Wingate machine (eg. 192.168.0.1)
"SOCKS4 Port" is standard 1080 (unless you have changed it)

Now for the UDP port allocation.

You must check "Use a mapped port on a Proxy"
"Proxy Server Host" is again your Wingate machine.
"Proxy server port" is 3333 (like you configured in GateKeeper)

If you followed all my directions, you should now be able to connect to ICQ and through the firewall.

Happy ICQ'ing :c) …
