If the modem on your sharing Client computer starts dialing whenever you start your browser, Newsreader, email or other application that uses the Internet and you don't want it to, read on!

This usually happens because you told it to at some point long ago. You may not have realized that you did this, because many times this action is automatically set by a Internet setup program or "wizard".

I personally don't use the little buggers (the Internet Setup Wizards) if I can help it, because they tend to do more "behind my back" than I'm comfortable with.

In Windows 95/98 this action is controlled by the Internet Control Panel.   You can stop it by setting the panel as shown below.

If the modem is still dialing after you do this, check to see if the program you are using has any "automatically connect" options in its properties or preferences.
