If you are using a hardware router and can't send or receive mail from a Client computer, you may have a problem with the way your ISP names their servers. Try the following:

NOTE: This information also applies to News servers!

If you're having trouble reaching the @Home startup page (http://www/), go to this page.

• Open your email program and find the Server Preferences.  The picture below shows where the email server Preferences are in Netscape Communicator and Outlook Express.

• If you see server names such as "mail", "pop", "smtp",  you'll need to change them. 

• You can first try asking your ISP for either the IP addresses or "fully qualified domain names" for their servers.  If your ISP won't give out the above information, open an MS-DOS window and type ping servername, where servername is either mail, pop, smtp, news or whatever your present server name is.

• Enter the IP address that gets returned by ping (circled in red in the picture below) instead of the servername, in the proper mailserver properties field.
  Do this for each servername if the POP and SMTP (or Incoming and Outgoing) servers are named differently.

• Close the email program Properties and you should be all set.
